This is incredible and I just had to talk about it. There doesn't seem to be too much information out so I'll def keep you updated as I learn more myself. It seems Dame is trying to get back the name which is currently owned by Def Jam and not being put to any use for anything. Nation said something about Dame trying to sign Curren$y to a P&D deal (pressing and distribution) with Def Jam through the Roc-A-Fella name. Now I'm a Roc-A-Fella purist, man. A fan of the movement since day one and all I can say is that I'm extremely excited. For one, as you can tell, we dig Curren$y a lot. Dame, the whole DD172 movement, everything those guys are doing over there is just so ill to me. Jay has his own thing, he doesn't have to be involved with this. Nothing anybody can do now, in 2010, can touch what Jay-Z, Dame Dash and Biggs ever did in the past, so I feel like fuck it, do it. Bring it back. The chain remains.
Here's what you don't hear Dame say in the video,
“Def Jam or Universal bought the brand. I think the ‘beef’ [with us and Jay-Z] was that Jay made it clear he didn’t want me or Biggs to be a part of it. That’s really where it was at. Now that he doesn’t work for Def Jam anymore, he doesn’t have the right to use the name. So there’s no reason for us not to use it. It’s there, and it’s a brand that’s not being used. So I was like, ‘I’ll take it.’ It always meant something to me.”
Crazy shit. I'm excited for these guys.
