Donda's Virgil Abloh Previews New Line "Off-White" Spring '14 Collection
I like some of this shit. Virgil's had his hand in dictating what these kids are rocking for some time now so it's only right.
Read interview and look Spring 14' preview here
Cross-pollinating cultures is a key element in the Off-White project, as well as in the emerging streetwear-meets-fashion sphere altogether. (Abloh’s mentor in melding is Riccardo Tisci. “I saw him wearing Air Force Ones designing couture gowns—finally, there’s a glimmer of understanding that relationship.”) In a world inhabited by an increasingly savvy and interdisciplinary customer base, Abloh could be well positioned to be one of its standard-bearers. His state-of-the-culture pronouncements can sound a bit brisk to the uninitiated—”I want to represent this new era of styling, the post-Tumblr guy and girl”—but the legions are massed behind him. (Just check the fanaticism of his Instagram following if you disbelieve.) His Pyrex shirts sold in such quantity and such speed that retailers, including Colette’s Sarah Andelman and The Webster’s Laure Heriard Dubreuil, have already put in orders for the Spring collection—sight unseen. That new customer base, Abloh insists, isn’t only interested in fashion. They’re interested in the message, whether that comes from a T-shirt, a song, a video projection, or anywhere in between. “The first collection, I named it Youth Will Always Win,” he says. “It’s really that. I think that’s what [defines] this generation…if people are really paying attention, they are interdisciplinary and they can jump into the conversation at any point. My team is talented kids that have that same spirit. They’re excited to give ideas across any platform.” The platform-builder has just built his own.

APC's Jean Touitou Interviews For Bond St. Store + Business Of Fashion
This guy continues to say great shit in interviews.
Tomorrow, A.P.C. will open a store on 49 Bond Street, its third NYC location. We talked to Jean about the new outpost as well as his thoughts on the Yeezus Tour, art and the worst trends in fashion today. As expected, his answers do not disappoint.
Read interview w/ Four-pins here
“I think A.P.C. is some sort of unique case, the utopia of a brand being able to be in business while not giving up its principles,” Jean Touitou, the label’s founder and owner, told BoF. “When you’re in business you’re told by a lot of people that if you want to do better, or simply to be alive, you have to design things in a way they work better; that you have to accept a bit of ugliness. I don’t.”

NYT Magazine Looks At Personal Art Collections Of Chuck Close, Kaws, Jeff Koons etc
Interesting stuff.
“I’m like a cat lady, but with drawings and paintings,” says Brian Donnelly, the 39-year-old artist known as KAWS. Earnings from the sales of the wildly popular, limited-edition toys based on “Companion,” a melancholic Mickey Mouse-like sculpture, enabled him to acquire art that might naturally appeal to a formally trained painter who came out of graffiti and skate culture. (KAWS was his graffiti tag, chosen because he liked “the interaction of the lettering.”) The collection reflects his refined, comic-book aesthetic in works by Raymond Pettibon, H. C. Westermann, R. Crumb, Ed Ruscha, the Chicago Imagists Karl Wirsum and Jim Nutt, and Peter Saul, whose cartoonish paintings make searing social commentary. “I have Sauls everywhere,” Donnelly says. “It’s crazy how much stuff today looks like his work.” He also owns 28 small canvases by the Japanese graphic artist Tadanori Yokoo (comic updates on paintings by Henri Rousseau), a charcoal by Joyce Pensato (a painter of cartoon figures) and a 1965 collage of comic-book cutouts by Ray Yoshida, a teacher of Nutt’s. “I grew up with a Keith Haring poster,” Donnelly says, but “I always wanted a drawing.” He has it now.

Pharrell Talks To Fast Company Magazine
As with most of the time this guy talks, we listen.
Williams is a fan of what he calls tapping in: being open to the kinds of peripheral ideas that lead to innovation. It requires an environment that permits fixation--the antithesis of multitasking--so that you have the ability to, as he puts it, "be quiet and absorb." And walking into the hushed lounge on the floor below the Miami recording studio is not unlike entering a Zendo. Pleasant people--some plugged into laptops, some bustling about--work in near silence. It appears to be, as Williams describes it, "an extremely well-disciplined environment," and his preternatural calm trickles down. Shapiro says that the i am OTHER team makes it possible for "P to focus on the big picture and thought-provoking ideas. They fill in the blanks. They prioritize and get shit done."

Day In The Life Of Nike C.E.O. Mark Parker
Very cool.
A fanatical devotion to sneaker design and a technical fluency rare among CEOs propelled the 58-year-old Nike lifer to the top perch of the footwear and apparel giant, which has reached annual revenues of $24 billion, up 60 percent since he was appointed in 2006. "Have you heard the Japanese word otaku?" he muses. "It means being deeply obsessed by the details of something. I relate to that."

The homies have set out again to do good in our city and help spread some needed joy this holiday season.
This Thanksgiving, along with Bravo's own, Chef Roble; By Any Means will launch its second annual charity initiative “By Any Meals: A 5 Borough Food Drive.” Our goal is to raise enough money and collect enough non-perishable goods for at least 500 people to have a hot plate of Turkey with all the fixings, as well as a bag of food to bring home with them on Thanksgiving Day.
Go here. Shout to the whole team on this for real.

NY Mag's "My Life As A Young Thug" Written By Mike Tyson
Couple weeks old but so good.
We were beefing with these guys called the Puma Boys. It was 1976, and I lived in Brownsville, Brooklyn, and these guys were from my neighborhood. At that time I was running with a Rutland Road crew called the Cats, a bunch of Caribbean guys from nearby Crown Heights. We were a burglary team, and some of our gangster friends had an altercation with the Puma Boys, so we were going to the park to back them up. We normally didn’t deal with guns, but these were our friends, so we stole a bunch of shit: some pistols, a .357 Magnum, and a long M1 rifle with a bayonet attached from World War II. You never knew what you’d find when you broke into people’s houses.

Rick Rubin Talks New Eminem Album w/ Complex
Getting into this now. Rick is the best.
We worked like a tag team. We had two rooms set up at the Shangri-la Studio in Malibu. In one room we were building beats and in the other room he was doing vocals. Anytime he would have a vocal thing together, he’d bring it in and play it for me and we would talk about it. Anytime I would have a new version of a beat or change in a beat or further developed a beat, I would call him in and he would listen to it and say what he liked and what he didn’t. We just kinda worked together, back and forth.

Huffington Post Talks To Nas
With “Life Is Good” it felt like hip hop needed an album to help steer the direction of the sound and the rest of the albums that were coming out that year. Or to re-encourage the ones that were working to say, “It’s ok to make a hip hop album.” And that was my goal with that. And I think I accomplished that. I think after that I saw a nice sharp turn for the better in rap albums. So that mission is completed. With this record, ah man … It’s the next chapter in myself as a writer. I’m really excited about every new leaf I turn. Every new endeavor. I’m excited about that and all the potential that comes with everything new that I do. And all my ideas can come to fruition. And that excites me, because there’s no limits to what I can do, in terms of trying to be an inspiration. I just want to do well for the listeners out there. Do well for the whole genre. So I’m excited.
One particular track off the album that has piqued fans' interest is, “Sinatra In The Sands,” featuring Justin Timberlake and Jay Z. What was the recording process like?
Excitement... Excitement to work and be in the place that we’re all are at, musically. Those are the guys who lasted the test of time, and those guys are at the top of their game. They’re just company to be in. So that’s the whole vibe of that. And of course the title says it all.

"I go to bed with all my friends"
Nipsey Hussle Interview w/ Complex, "Does Complex Love The Culture?"
Interview is awesome. Real shit.
Number one, who is an editor to have an opinion on a street nigga? Bottom line. Those editors don’t live this life. They don’t go through the struggle. I’m from the Rolling 60's my nigga. They don’t understand what putting an album out is to me. It ain’t the same as one of them backpack niggas, or one of them college-rapping types. That ain’t the shit I do. I got enemies. I went to war for real in between albums. My life is real. So when I hear about an editor asking: What’s up with my output? I’m like: What’s up with you even commenting on my life? Niggas don’t know my life. That’s the bourgeoisie approach that I get offended by because this ain’t no bubble. This ain’t no vacuum we doing this music out of. That’s why people connect to the pain in it. Because it’s real. That’s the part they should respect. These radio hits, these charts, they don’t validate the truth and the message. That’s when I start to be like, “Okay, you ain’t got a record on radio. You ain’t put an album out officially, so you’re an underachiever.”

The Village Voice Score Ultra-Exclusive Interview With Mysterious Artist Banksy
Ahhh, a rare glimpse into the mind.
Banksy says he visited New York "a couple of months ago" to scout locations for the October show, but he "returned to find most of the empty lots I planned to use have got condos built on them already."
He is now living in the city—not surprisingly, he won't reveal where he's holed up or how long he plans to stay—and he hints at a lack of a formal plan for when and where new pieces will be installed this month. "The plan is to live here, react to things, see the sights—and paint on them," he writes. "Some of it will be pretty elaborate, and some will just be a scrawl on a toilet wall."
