T.Shirt x William Yan Shoot The Album Cover In Dumbo (Hot Mop Films BTS)

Ran around Dumbo, Brooklyn last week with the homie Will for williamyan.com shooting photos all over the area for the album. What you end up seeing as the finished cover wasn't what we originally had in mind but Will took such great photos we changed the concept up last minute. That's mothafuckin' Dredlife of Hot Mop Films behind the 5D documenting the experience in style. The whole evening was just a pleasure as the talented guys I worked with were also cool as fuck. Can't ask for more than that.

*The song playing is a bonus off the album we're releasing next week so stay tuned for that.

Thanks for all the support on the album thus far for real. We're over 1,000 downloads in under 3 days now and the promoting doesn't stop one bit. If you haven't got yours yet, do it now!

Kanye West Joins Twitter

So AMK, Dred and I willed this shit to happen haha. Sitting around the night before it all went down we had this big conversation on whether or not Ye is a "bitch" or just passionate and fucking nuts about making you understand his point. My opinion was the latter and I went as far as to say Joell Ortiz and him are probably real similar except for the fact Kanye West is a lot more talented. I was just going off the fact that Ortiz has had a bunch of "bitch" moments on Twitter same as I'm sure we'd have from someone like 'Ye. Anyway, you understand what I'm trying to say here. Fast forward to the next day your man finally gets a Twitter account and for something like 48 hours now has done nothing but get a ridiculous amount of followers in a very short time and tweet the dumbest, most expensive shit you've ever seen. Thought I'd share.

I need this horse... Kings need horses http://twitpic.com/29suqi

I hate half empty water bottles so I copped these #goblets to drink out of http://twitpic.com/29mnd1

Vintage Hermes travel bags are tight yo!!! http://twitpic.com/29rqdt

*Besides the hoopla, he might just one of the funnest people on Twitter to follow right now. Do it!

G-Shock August 2010 Release “Matte Black Red Eye”

It's pretty official now though. I'm mad into dope black G-shocks and shit. Didn't think this day would come but it's here. They've re-introduced the “Matte Black Red Eye” pack. Ugh, nice watch.

Zach Galifianakis x Steve Carell "Between Two Ferns" Interview (FunnyOrDie)

This is so dope. The chemistry between these guys is so on point. Classic shit.

Nike Air Force 1 “Patent Leather Sport Red”

These are gorgeous. Pictures of them on my feet coming soon.

Get used to this no link shit.

*The OtherSide Ep. 4* Nina Sky x Hot Mop Films (BTS) Album Covershoot

Great footage with a bunch of my friends involved. Dredlife on the camera for his HotMopFilms and Nina Sky  bouncing around as playful and as happy as ever getting ready to drop their new self-made album, The OtherSide August 3rd. Good vibes in 2010 thus far. And damn they're beautiful.

Pharrell Talk Science To Interview Magazine

"SOME PEOPLE JUST HAVE THAT INNATE THING THAT ALLOWS THEM TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES IN A WAY THE MAJORITY CAN FOLLOW. THAT’S WHEN YOU’RE AFFECTING CULTURE"
—PHARRELL WILLIAMS

We love this guy over here. Lately he's been like dressing bananas and going mad and shit but it's ok haha. This is pretty interesting actually.

A recent Interview Magazine feature focuses on Pharrell Williams in a topic never actively discussed among the superstar musician. as it speaks about Williams’ fascination with science. A comprehensive set of questions focus on his current relationship with Dr. V.S. Ramachandran, a professor of neuroscience and psychology at the University of California. Pharrell talks about his fabric company, what notions have been spawned by his experiences with NIGO and his interest in the sciences.

I like when stand-out, popular publications do something different than what's expected. Go left, always. The feature is kinda incredible and can be seen here in full.

Wiz Khalifa Interview w/ Hardknock TV From A Few Months Ago

This is a tight little interview they got going on.  Eskay says it's a bit old in "internet terms" but I clicked and realized again why I'm digging Wiz so much right now.

Alessandra Ambrosio For Moschino Fall 2010

Feeling the simplistic nature of the new Moschino ads. The red logo pops off the lux outfits and gold metal. They've been doing good things for a long time over there. Photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin bring a 90's feel to the Autumn goodness and although I agree with the kid Jeremy Danté about the new line being a little gaudy, there's something really classic going on as well.

Big Boi x Rolling Stone Feature

Love art direction like this. Great fucking picture and cool ass little article.

"'Lollipop' was my jam," says Big Boi, who ended up signing with Def Jam. "I would get my dick sucked to that song. but how can you ask me to bite another man's style like that?"

Takashi Murakami Exhibition @ The Chateau de Versailles

What. An. Honor. God. The world renowned Japanese artist hits France for a special exhibition in September. This is one hell of a career highlight if you ask me. Running September 14th, through December 12th, 2010, Murakami's puts on a very special exhibition and sounds crazy excited haha, "I am the Cheshire cat that welcomes Alice in Wonderland with its diabolic smile, and chatters away as she wanders around the Château. With a broad smile I invite you all to discover the wonderland of Versailles." Mad ill, good for him.

*Eminem Explains Concept Behind Recovery “Glass House” Album Cover*

I only got to see like half of this thus far but so far it's fucking great. Seems a few great artists just put out behind-the-scenes of their photoshoots haha. For real though, it's good to see Em good and working. Props to RR.

Freddie Gibbs x Complex Magazine Interview

Felt like this needed it's own post. Here's what everyone was talking about on Twitter all day yesterday. For good reason too. The last of a dying breed, my man. Not saying it's good to be so negative at times but I respect the honesty.

Rap’s so fucking watered down right now, you can be a motherfucking C.O., you can kiss a nigga, and as long as you making good music, these niggas don’t give a fuck. With me I’ma make good music, be a man of my word, and live how I’m rapping. It’s a fine line between artistry and authenticity, and I just think that I just combine all of that, and everybody can’t do that. It definitely makes it difficult from a mainstream-radio standpoint, but I can care less. That’s only because these dudes have those machines behind them and those marketing dollars behind them to dress their fake shit up. But I’m not trying to fabricate nothing or dress nothing up to be something that it’s not. I ain’t a nigga with no furs, but I’ve sold a lot of crack. A lot of pills. But I wasn’t that nigga like that. It seem like all these niggas in the rap game trying to tell the boss story when 90% of these niggas was never the boss. I was never no coke boss of my neighborhood. I was a shooter, a corner boy. So that’s the perspective I gotta tell you from. I can’t tell you that perspective with no nigga that live in those million-dollar houses, I ain’t never had that.

Ryan Leslie Creating The Instrumental For "Fast Life" In Miami

This is some real fly shit. I was just talking about Ryan Leslie to someone too. I remember when my man wasn't very popular at all recording videos himself in his Harlem studio banging out records for Nina Sky, piping Cassie etc. Now look at him. This is mad entertaining and shot really nice. Respect, man.

*New Mixtape* XXL Presents Str8 Killa No Filla - Freddie Gibbs

Haven't heard this yet but I wanted to speak on Gibbs for a minute. This mothafucka is one of the few I've actively tried to do a song with. I think he's crazy talented and there's something about him NOW that reminds me of Pac, THEN. Take from that what you will. Mixed by Statik Selektah, and presented by XXL, this gets us ready for the Str8 Killa EP dropping August 3rd on Decon. Support good hip-hop yo. This kid is saying something.

Diddy x Rick Ross x Bad Boy Roster 2010 Cover Aug/Sep Issue Of Vibe

Nice and huge for online viewing. It's kinda interesting. I'm pretty into what these guys are doing right now but something about this cover isn't clicking with me. Doesn't have the grit on it those classic covers used to have for some reason. I don't know what it is. Still though, respect the commission.

*New Album* T.Shirt - Cowboy In The Sun

T.Shirt's 7th street-album/mixtape, first of original music.

Executive Produced by Paul Cantor - here's what he had to say:
"T.Shirt's music came to me from a very honest and pure place. From himself. No cosigns, no big name DJs hosting his mixtape, no notable producers, no guest MCs. But when I heard his voice, his flow, his passion, I was sold. He's witty without predictability and alternative without cliche. Even still, he's true school to the core- the kid's got bars for days. Cowboy in the Sun is hip-hop. It's rock. It's soul. From barbecues to the beach to the project benches, it's a portrait of an artist just trying to make it through another very long hot summer."

Oliver Peoples x The Social Trust - Our History

This is really strong. Wonderfully directed and put forth with great vision to really bring you into what the guys at the famed eyewear brand have strived to do.

*New Music* Chain Swinging - Gangrene (The Alchemist & Oh No)

This is fucking illlll. Let that real rap shit breathe baby!
"Famed producer/emcee The Alchemist and left-coast rapper/beatsmith Oh No are collaborating as Gangrene to bring audiences their gritty opus Gutter Water this October on Decon Records. Over the course of three years and a myriad of emails, the two have built a project that celebrates their shared passion for dusty breaks and lurid wordplay as well as their distinctly different application of each.
Oh No and The Alchemist share production duties on Gutter Water, while trading verses over each others dense compositions. Both find themselves remarkably at ease amongst the threatening drums pounded out on endearing vintage equipment, flipping verses that run the gamut from literal to abstract, amounting to an incredible collection of head-nodders. Features include Raekwon, Guilty Simpson, Big Twins, Evidence, Roc C, MED, Twins Gambino, Planet Asia and Fashawn."

Alc is beast oh my God, this beat.

Rick Ross' Teflon Don Goes Number One/T.Shirt At Best Buy

Looks like the numbers are in for Ricky Rozay and he's got another number one album on his belt beating out Eminem for a 5th week reign. The Double R is reporting 107,000 first week numbers and one of them copies was all me baby, haha. Me and Dred hit up Best Buy after shooting the cover last Tuesday and filmed me supporting ill rap music.

*New Music* Lauryn Hill - Repercussions

Don't even ask me how I slept on this. I feel ashamed. This track is fucking incredible. I guess I was waiting on some clarification if it was brand-new or not but after finally listening, it really doesn't matter. It's so beautiful. Ms. Hill come back to us.

Curren$y x Oxyrotin Does Canada

This is almost like a mini-documentary on getting Curren$y to Canada for a show and some recording. It's shot pretty dope and narrated by these two college kids who just came up with the idea that they were going to have Spitta come through. I think they say they sent $3,000 to a body shop in New Orleans haha. Cool shit.

Vevo Captures Kid Cudi Performing "Revofev" At The Bape Store NYC

Great footage from them Vevo boys and Kid Cudi as he heads through downtown to his Bape Store performance last month. I don't care what anybody says, the kid is interesting and although I'm not the biggest fan of all the new music, I do respect the shit out of it.

*New Music* Continental Kush Breakfast - Smoke DZA

Met Dza downstairs in the studio at DD172 a little bit ago and he was a pretty cool dude who seemed to just wanna fall asleep already haha. LowKey premiered this official leak off his George Kush Da Button mixtape dropping Aug. 4th featuring some of the usual suspects around homie, Big K.R.I.T., Curren$y, Mickey Factz, Dom Kennedy and more. I probably feel the artwork up top more than I do the actual song but that's okay sometimes right?

Pretty ill photo of the legendary Futura shot by John Mayer.

*New* Entourage Episode 4 Season 7

Caught this last night and it was pretty good as always. Honestly can't wait for HBO's other awesome shows to come back out.

Adidas Originals By Jeremy Scott "Cross Sweater"

This is fucking bananas. Jeremy Scott has been manhandling Adidas image for some time now but it's either a little too left for me or just plain ugly haha. this is right on. Not saying I'd wear it but I think design-wise it's pretty special. Reminds me a little of what I was doing 6-7 years ago.

Cop

*New Video* The ILLZ - Turpentine Weed

Another joint off the kid's In Between Video Series dropping August 17th. I like how this one is a bit more fun than the emotional stuff Illz is becoming so known for. We've yet to hear the boy snap, which would be an interesting change of pace but I do feel there's a lot of growth coming and anything's possible. The Director Kristopher Rey-Talley has some words about the experience here if you're interested.

*New* MTV's Sucker Free Summit

Got to watch this in full earlier and I must admit it was pretty fun for a hip-hop head bent on talking, and debating the culture with like-minded people. I think it's a good thing they got going here and hopefully it'll see some growth over the years into something even iller. Would love to see inter-changing guests and speakers too but Envy plays host well. Would love to know how much work was really put into something like this or if it came about pretty natural. My boy NahGee should take def be taking some strong hints as well.

Rick Ross: Living Out Notorious B.I.G.'s Dream?

A lot of times I'll forget why I follow certain people on Twitter. Whether it's an interesting job description or just a human target I desire haha, sometimes I'm reminded in the dopest of ways. I read this excellent article the other night from Elitaste using an awesome comparison between Ricky Rozay and Biggie. I mean like really dope, read here.

The Reed Space BP Pigeon Tees

Yo I believe it's innovation tees like this that put Reed Space at the forefront of street brands. I saw Jeff Staple himself tweet about this yesterday and checking it out, I think it's pretty ill. One of their famous NYC pigeons seems to have took a swim in the gulf. All proceeds go to Healthy Gulf.

Leonardo DiCaprio Covers Rolling Stone Magazine

Leo is back in a big way with this incredible new movie and known for being a real private dude he gives a pretty telling sit-down interview to quote, "smoke a few cigars, have some beers, sing the Cheers theme song (badly) and open up on everything from his wild youth as Hollywood's hottest heartthrob to a recent brush with death."

"I got to be wild and nuts, and I didn't suffer as much as people do now, where they have to play it so safe that they ruin their credibility. I didn't care what anyone thought.... It was also about avoiding the tornado of chaos, of potential downfall. It was, 'Wow, how lucky are we to not have hung out with that crowd or done those things?' My two main competitors in the beginning, the blond-haired kids I went to audition with, one hung himself and the other died of a heroin overdose... . I was never into drugs at all. There aren’t stories of me in a pool of my own vomit in a hotel room on the Hollywood Strip."

*New Music* Fat Joe "I'm Gone (DJ Premier)" + "I Am Crack (Just Blaze)"

Joey's one of those guys I never count out. I still like his flow a lot and I think he commands respect like the best of 'em. There's just something that's never corny about the nigga to me and from what I hear, The Darkside is no mothafuckin' walk in the park. Dropping this Tuesday the 27th, almost every credible source I've read had something good to say about early listens. They say Joey's got his thing back. Judging from these two cuts, it's gonna be a crack summer.

T.Shirt's "Golden Sound" Review By RefinedHype/Added As XXL Banger

Always love a positive write-up where the writer actually seems to understand what I was trying to do. It's just a little something but I figured I'd share. Huge shout to my man Nathan over at www.refinedhype.com

Check out the review here

In addition, I mentioned it a couple days ago but I thought it deserved it's own little post. XXL got wind of my hot shit and put the record up as a Banger on their site. Seems I still got a fan up there. Good shit. Really trying to get somebody's attention over there. They do good things for young talent.

Check out the feature here and do me a favor and comment it up.

Martin Margiela Calbe Knit Beanies Fall/Winter 2010

Anybody that knows me, knows I do the $2 skullys with no problem. I actually prefer them over expensive joints. I wouldn't be closed to trying something different though. Especially since then I'd get to rap about Martin Margiela like the other cool rapper guys. Honestly though, it looks a little thick for my taste. And that's most likely not what she said haha.

Available here for about $173 more than what I'm used to paying.

Primitive X Justene Jaro - Underwear & Infrareds

Hey! A pretty bitch rolling around in her underwear and a cool pair of kicks. Ill rapper shit baby. "As many of you know, The Nike Air Max 90 has become quite the icon since it's debut in 1990. It is the second running shoe created by Tinker Hatfield that displays a Visible Air Window on it's exterior. No matter how many times the original Infrared colourway sees a retro release, it's re-arrival is always welcomed with open arms."

Simple By John Mayer

I've taken to reading his tumblr on a regualr basis now and I thought this was really nice. Enjoy.

"I wish that when I was younger I could have met my current self. We would have sat down at a coffee shop so that I could explain life to young me in terms that only we would understand. It would have saved me a lot of hardship.
You can listen to all the sage wisdom you want, but things only make sense when you can explain them to yourself in your own words. For instance, I’ve been told for three years that Breaking Bad is the best show on television, but only after I watched it was I able to tell myself exactly why everyone was right. Other truths I know now that I can explain them: that I’m not missing any crucial information and that poker really isn’t all that fun; that heartbreaks do fade but they take about a year longer than you expect and by the time they do you really don’t care about it enough to notice; and above all else, life is simpler than you think.
I used to think that life was an intricate series of levers and pulleys, buttons and switches, Mexican standoffs and hostage negotiations. As I get older I realize that life is more Netherlands minimalist than Jackson Pollock. The problems don’t get fewer, and in fact they grow in number, but the way I index them in the database is different. More problems get filed under fewer category headers.
Things are getting simpler, and it’s making life better. Here’s the cheat sheet:
People want to be liked. We all crave attention and affection and we all reject shame. When we get embarrassed we send a thug version of ourselves to the forefront to do our fighting for us. We’re at the top of the food chain just under fear. We don’t want to be in a relationship to hear the words “I love you,” we want to be in a relationship to say the words “I love you.” We want to feel needed, and exceptional and we hate feeling insignificant. We want to ace a hearing test. We are binary creatures; if we’re the plaintiff, we want to win every dollar. If we’re the defendant, we want guard every penny. We want to make more money than last year. We don’t want to get cancer or die in our cars and we want the same for our loved ones. We go out on weekends to try and have sex while trying not to get punched in the face. We drink so we can be ourselves and not mind it so much. We’re desperate to be understood. We want to know someone else has felt it, too. We hate being judged unfairly. We want to make the person we heard wasn’t all that into us change their minds and admit they had us wrong. We want sunny skies with a chance of killer tornadoes, just to keep music sounding good. We take hours upon hours to admit to self consciousness. We don’t know exactly how to pleasure each other. We just want love. In any and every form.
See? It’s simple. :)"

Alyssa Miller For Elle Italia July 2010

A great scene and not just for obvious reasons haha. The girls look like fun and in the beaches of Naples, Italy I can think of a few more things to do than eat ice cream on the boardwalk. Photographer David Burton gives us summertime. Check it out.

Rick Ross Teflon Don Album Packaging

Here's a couple of the album scans courtesy of YoungKings. I was just saying on Twitter how I wish Virgin Megastore in Times Square was still open so I could take a midnight ride and buy the album like the old days. I just now remembered Best Buy in Union Sqaure is open 24hours! It's almost 3am and I have to get ready for a photoshoot in the AM so tomorrow it is. Absolutely one of the most anticipated albums of the year for me. I've been riding out to a few of the cuts that leaked and it just puts me in such a zone. So ill. The booklet looks cool, nothing spectacular. Let's go ahead and give Ricky Ross a 4th number one this week shall we?

Inception Movie Review By T.Shirt (No Spoilers)

I've never really done this for a movie but I figured now's a good a time as any to start. I only have a few hundred things to do before my trip. The other night me and about 10 friends or so saw what to me was probably one of, if not the best movie of the year. We might have stood outside the theatre for half an hour afterward discussing endless possibilities of where the story might have gone if it had only stayed on the screen for another 3 seconds or something. That's the closest you'll get to a spoiler haha. In all seriousness, besides the professionals at work on-set at the helm of the masterful Christopher Nolan and his screenwriter brother, the story itself is so intriguing, so interesting and original of a tale, it really did leave us all in awe. You're literally sitting there and you can't take it all in fast enough at bigger gulps. The little girl from Juno is well on her way to becoming a full-fledged movie star and mothafuckin' Leo's doing the wine thing and absolutely getting better with age. Almost everyone I've talked to felt the same way so look, forget about the fact that movies nowadays are a million dollars a ticket  and go see this on the big screen with a friend or two. Tell them an ill rapper told you it was fucking dope.

Shyne Takes XXL To Belize For Cover-shoot (Behind The Scenes)

Interestingly done behind the scenes in Belize for Shyne. The freestyle is an excerpt from that, "Rollin" song they put out a little bit ago. I didn't like it too much but I remember listening until the end cause it was the better stuff from Shyne in about 10 years or something. Hearing him spit it here acappella though, it's much better. His voice sounds better too, and some of the imagery here it just ill. Wondering what's gonna come of the man.

William Yan Shoots Vintage Vandal In Soho

Street-famous Photographer Will Yan and I have some pretty ill collaborations coming up and I just wanted to share a little behind the scenes of how the man works. We bumped into Ms. Vintage Vandal downtown the other day on our walkabout meeting in Soho and after a little chatting her up Will got to work a bit, taking a few flicks of the beauty on the fly. It's that simple except, you're not Will Yan haha.

Dr. Romanelli for Barneys Japan “Detonation” Jacket

God damn, it's pieces like this that have me feigning for fall fashion through and through. Made exclusively for Barneys Japan, DRx presents a jacket from his “Detonation” Collection. Fucking incredible. Reworked 1960’s military field shirts and G1’s, military tote bags and caps etc. Great stuff.

*New Video* The ILLZ - Dreams of Life & Beth

ILLZ is becoming real cool with myself and the whole team and not to mention putting out some of the greater introspective and emotional rap records I've heard in while. I feel the struggle, and you will too. Shot on the Manhattan Bridge in the wee hours of the morning, the kid born Delgis Mustafa spits us his soul and while you passed him and filmmaker Kristopher Rey-Talley on the train, they made something beautiful. This song will be appearing on The ILLZ’s About In Between Video Series dropping August 17th. Here's what Kristopher had to say about the clip:
"When The ILLZ approached me about the “In Between Video series”, I was struck by the simple brilliance of it all. Releasing video and song simultaneously, as one piece of content, was a bold and strong move. I signed on immediately, and within a few days, we began shooting the first few videos. Simple, often low concept, but brimming with ILLZ insistence on cinematic imagery. With “Dreams of Life & Beth”, I decided to go with a very cold, morbid look. The song is introspective and haunting, and I wanted to convey that through a simplistic set of visuals. Shooting on the Manhattan bridge at 5:30am, we got that clean ambient light, and complete desertion. Everything was shot on long lenses, creating a sense of deep space and complete loneliness. The video is a mood piece, low on concept but high on artistry and emotion. It is but the first chapter in a varied, complex and beautiful set of upcoming videos, one unlike that of any artist I’ve worked with thus far."

Lindsey Lohan x Kaws Cover August/September Issue Of Complex

I'm not even sure how I feel about this but I decided to post it anyway. She doesn't even look hot in this picture to be honest. Kaws busts a nut all over her though, good shit.

Georgette Cline Spends The Day w/ Bun B For Aol's Boombox

My good friend Ms. Georgette Cline spent the day with the man last week. Gee has an easy way of writing and it's a great article on one of my favorite guys in the rap industry.
