Huffington Post Talks To Nas

Queens.

Thus far, how is the album shaping up in terms of its direction?

With “Life Is Good” it felt like hip hop needed an album to help steer the direction of the sound and the rest of the albums that were coming out that year. Or to re-encourage the ones that were working to say, “It’s ok to make a hip hop album.” And that was my goal with that. And I think I accomplished that. I think after that I saw a nice sharp turn for the better in rap albums. So that mission is completed. With this record, ah man … It’s the next chapter in myself as a writer. I’m really excited about every new leaf I turn. Every new endeavor. I’m excited about that and all the potential that comes with everything new that I do. And all my ideas can come to fruition. And that excites me, because there’s no limits to what I can do, in terms of trying to be an inspiration. I just want to do well for the listeners out there. Do well for the whole genre. So I’m excited.

One particular track off the album that has piqued fans' interest is, “Sinatra In The Sands,” featuring Justin Timberlake and Jay Z. What was the recording process like?

Excitement... Excitement to work and be in the place that we’re all are at, musically. Those are the guys who lasted the test of time, and those guys are at the top of their game. They’re just company to be in. So that’s the whole vibe of that. And of course the title says it all.

"I go to bed with all my friends"

Nipsey Hussle Interview w/ Complex, "Does Complex Love The Culture?"

Interview is awesome. Real shit.

Number one, who is an editor to have an opinion on a street nigga? Bottom line. Those editors don’t live this life. They don’t go through the struggle. I’m from the Rolling 60's my nigga. They don’t understand what putting an album out is to me. It ain’t the same as one of them backpack niggas, or one of them college-rapping types. That ain’t the shit I do. I got enemies. I went to war for real in between albums. My life is real. So when I hear about an editor asking: What’s up with my output? I’m like: What’s up with you even commenting on my life? Niggas don’t know my life. That’s the bourgeoisie approach that I get offended by because this ain’t no bubble. This ain’t no vacuum we doing this music out of. That’s why people connect to the pain in it. Because it’s real. That’s the part they should respect. These radio hits, these charts, they don’t validate the truth and the message. That’s when I start to be like, “Okay, you ain’t got a record on radio. You ain’t put an album out officially, so you’re an underachiever.”

The Village Voice Score Ultra-Exclusive Interview With Mysterious Artist Banksy

Ahhh, a rare glimpse into the mind.

Banksy says he visited New York "a couple of months ago" to scout locations for the October show, but he "returned to find most of the empty lots I planned to use have got condos built on them already."

He is now living in the city—not surprisingly, he won't reveal where he's holed up or how long he plans to stay—and he hints at a lack of a formal plan for when and where new pieces will be installed this month. "The plan is to live here, react to things, see the sights—and paint on them," he writes. "Some of it will be pretty elaborate, and some will just be a scrawl on a toilet wall."

Louis C.K. Talks New Season Of Louie At PaleyFest's "Made In NY"

I'm a fein for this guy's work. So much so that this is a post simply dedicated to linking you to a written summary of last night's talk, by the good folks over at Gothamist.

Last night, Louis C.K. was the main attraction at Paley Center’s "Made In NY" PaleyFest as he and Louie executive producer Blair Breard sat down with Time’s television critic James Poniewozik to talk about the show. After the crowds in the various rooms watched two episodes from season three ("Daddy's Girlfriend pt. 2" and "Barney/Never"), C.K. and Breard discussed the fourth season of Louie (which just started shooting this week), the complexities of filming in NYC, the MTA, ideas for movies, his feelings on cell phones on set, and of course, diarrhea.
