T.Shirt is the walking, talking, ill rapper dot com. Wyclef says it's his energy. Born and raised in NY as a multi-ethnic, rapping, designing, painting, jumping, wild-child, sonovabitch, it's only right the kid's learned to flex his creative muscle. After a succession of well-critiqued indie albums such as Tan-Face Children, and I Should Just Chill, as well as hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube, the MC signed a publishing deal and landed TV placements on popular shows, The Ringer & CSI: NY. In 2012, T.Shirt dropped THE FUCK album to much fanfare and beaming reviews from cornerstone blogs like OkayPlayer & HipHopDX, and teamed with Reebok Classics and Staple Design for the documentary/performance/event "Classic Sessions NYC". T.Shirt then readied a new album due late Spring, and teamed with Streetwear legend, Jeff Staple, for the Success To Me video. This June, he can be seen performing in Toronto, Canada's premiere music festival, NXNE. Safe to say your man isn't letting up.

"There’s nothing healthy about keeping your feelings bottled up. Thus, T.Shirt thoughtfully invites his haters to Sound Off with impunity on the second video/single release off his forthcoming full-length. Tom Ayes mans the boards, crafting a blissfully-mellow, surf-kissed beat to back the Big Apple spitter’s self-assured bars, and Ronin ties it all together with some velvety-smooth hook vocals." - DJBooth

Jeff Staple rapping your verses in video? That’s a pretty huge look. How did a guy lauded as a visionary get so heavily involved with your music?

"It happened naturally. To know me is to know what I’m pushing for. It was never my intent to bring Jeff my music. Like you said, this guy is a visionary. All I’ve wanted to do was soak that up, and learn from him. It just so happens the man is New York to the core and loves hip-hop..."

(See Original Post here)

"The Coolest Winter"
Produced by Steel Tipped Dove

“Dog I love Rihanna, know you love Rihanna too am I so wrong, for all the things I wanna do?”
Reviews:

"T.Shirt is a New York rapper carrying on some of the sharp-tongued, often abandoned influence of the 90s. You can hear it in the way he speaks, you can gather it from every line. But he’s also a creative dude, not trying to recapture some “essence” that the kids these days left behind. That’s why this pairing is so ideal...T.Shirt sounds comfortable, but Steel Tipped Dove skews it just enough to make something that’s just as interesting as it is comprehensible." - Confusion, PigeonsAndPlanes

"Introduced to our pages via February’s Come Home With Me, T.Shirt makes his return to the Booth with freshly-released single The Coldest Winter... the Big Apple representative delivers bars so cold you might just want to wear a sweater while listening. Craving more? Then keep it locked for further details on T. Shirt’s forthcoming, yet-untitled album, scheduled for release in early May." - DJ Booth

"We should have known better than to expect some more laid back music (based on the title) from T. Shirt, but he’s still his aggressive shit with “The Coolest Winter.” The dark, spacy beat might just match the bi-polar weather we’ve seen this winter. Fuck with it." - Legend, FreeOnSmash

HOT. DAMN. Who knew a song that was written about winter could be so hot? You better believe the man T.Shirt’s creative juices are fucking flowing on his new track titled “The Coolest Winter”, which dropped yesterday. Shirt compliments this anything but orthodox beat with his meant for hip-hop stardom sound, as he reflects on an extremely positive winter. - TheShapery

Reebok Presents "Classic Sessions NYC" w/ T.Shirt & URNEWYORK

Reed Space and Reebok have come together to create a physical public space where the Music and the Art can literally meet. Each session is a pairing of an artist and a musician. They meet, chat, rap and just build off each other. Then they go off and create based off that meeting. We’ve converted a classic LES, NYC storefront to become a recording studio and gallery space. The art is done right on the walls of the gallery space. The music is actually recorded inside the same space. And everything plays out for the public to see and interact with.

Shirt had this to say.

T.Shirt is asked by the The Source to contribute some words about the late Big Pun:

Shit, man. Pun dying was such a loss. Kids took that shit hard. Hip-Hop took that shit hard. It might sound corny or what not but hearing Pun say, "I just lost 100 pounds, I'm trying to live!" was wild inspirational. Then boom. So unfair. I like the classics, the joints you can throw on to this day and whether you were a die hard fan or just from that era, you still know what to do. "100%,” "Still Not A Player,” "Twinz (Deep Cover),” and "It's So Hard" were some of my favorites. Kills me cause you hear the type of party/pop records Pun could make and they felt so organic. He never forced it yet the man rapped so well. Has me believe he most likely had so many good years [left] in him to make music. We really lost something special with Big Pun. May God rest his soul.

Reviews of THE FUCK start to pour in.
*HipHopDX gives it a 4/5 stars and has things like this to say:

"Despite its circumstances, The Fuck sounds far from amateur, an album that unleashes his many voices without letting them overstay their welcome. Shirt's latest is a darkly melodic joint full of rants, raves and rhymes... The album's best moment is his most personal – “I Never Knew Money,” whose drum break and haunting piano loop set the tone for Shirt to spit about the harsh reality of relying on a gambling addict to pay the bills... “I Never Knew Money” is the soul of The Fuck, its bars informing both Shirt's biting criticisms and his dark sense of humor... The album's productions are sonically rich, full of beating drums and haunting high-end melodies. Every beat seems well placed for each topic – they sulk when he spits vitriol and get playful when he's looking to simply showcase his skills (“Southside Phantom”). None of its ten songs feel particularly out of place - a true testament to its sequencing. Shirt never seems to dwell on The Fuck, and this choice helps frame a well-rounded listening experience."

*SmokingSection said this:

"New York is finally beginning to regain its own identity... Currently less heralded than some of his peers, but seemingly destined to enter the national conversation, enters Queens-bred emcee T.Shirt. Culled from the digital debris of a Miami break-in that cost him a Macbook Pro and original Pro Tools sessions, The Fuck is a raw and unfiltered 30 minutes of inventive and clever lyricism set to a neo-boom bap soundtrack. While clearly New York born and bred, Shirt has a unique aesthetic that’s reflected in his production and subject matter. Even so, lyricism is never sacrificed and the short but intense tape ranks high on the entertainment value scale. Using the setting of a house party as a jumping off point, “Puerto Rican Rum” is a stylized rant on quarter-life crisis without the whininess or psychobabble. “Old Man Angst” brings to mind Spike Lee’s “Fuck You” scene from 25th Hour set to music. “I Never Knew Money,” with it’s haunting keys and matter of fact delivery from Shirt, is a yellowed snapshot of poverty pulled directly from the scrapbook of his Queens upbringing. Add in the previously mentioned tracks, “P*ssy” and “Angst,” and Shirt’s created a strong, ten-song release. With his SEO-unfriendly name, irreverent attitude, and unique lyrical approach, T.Shirt immediately presents himself as an outsider. Thankfully, he’s an outsider with something to say. The Fuck may not have been Shirt’s original vision in his attempt to capture more eyes and ears to his cause, but the gritty, unsanitized result is an endearing and honest take on one man’s vision worth multiple listens."

Not all the reviews were in Shirt's favor. Popular indie-music blog Passionwise called T.Shirt "angry", and had this to say:

"Shirt’s latest mixtape, “The Fuck,” further develops a character that isn’t as much pure New York hip-hop as it is pure New York. This is dark-alley anger rap, shamelessly abrasive, stumbling out of a dive bar. Lyrics that sound best shouted off a cheap, rundown rooftop."

MSN Interviews T.Shirt for their "Get To Know The Artist" Series:

"Imagine losing all of your music, photos, and memories in one fell swoop. That's what happened to rapper Shirt this past year in Miami. The Queens bred wordsmith lost every bit of material he was trying to piece together for his album, profanely titled THE FUCK. Shirt is an interesting case study in present-day Hip Hop. He walks the line of DIY rappers who adopt a "by any means necessary" mantra while simultaneously fantasizing about the good life. The only difference is, Shirt doesn't walk the block for fodder. He attacks every opportunity possible."

Press Release:

“The Fuck” sessions, were stolen out of T.Shirt’s car in Miami this past December, along with his MacBook Pro and other valuables. No individual protool sessions meant the songs could never be changed. No updated mixes could be produced, no TV or “clean” versions of tracks could be made, and basically songs had to be released as they were, or scrapped and recorded again from scratch. The album was about 94% done. This is that album.

Police on the dude. T.Shirt’s new album, The Fuck, is coming soon..." - Okayplayer

"T.Shirt is going hard in the paint on his newest release The Fuck... “Angst” and “Puerto Rican Rum” are the lead singles, you could feel the frustration... Shirt has always been an honest dude, that’s why I’ve been on his back ever since I first heard him back in the Life Series: 01 Days.. one of the most determined, most underrated in the Queens game right now as far as I’ve heard. (I know we rep a lot of Queens rap on here..) Angst video is vulgar, but Shirt stays pimp tight..." - goldsweatshirt

"T.Shirt is one of those dudes that you can just hear boiling over with passion. It’s clear that a lot of rappers see this as a “game.” We all talk about music like that at times, but it’s more than that, and to T. Shirt, music is an obvious outlet. Whether he’s on some artistic tip or just spilling out his frustration, he’s getting something out with every song he writes. “Puerto Rican Rum” has him getting a bitter taste out of his mouth, but it makes for one of his best yet, despite the fact that it’s under two minutes long." - PigeonsandPlanes

"Queens newcomer T.Shirt drops off his blunt and uncensored full-length offering, The F*ck, for real rap heads who don't believe in watered down bars." - TheSource

"T.Shirt is a songwriter, rapper and designer working out of New York City. Raised in Queens, he has lived all over the city, but one listen to his work will reveal how much attention T.Shirt pays to the human condition, beyond just city life. The tracks on his latest album, I Should Just Chill, make the listener ask important questions about how we interact with our world and the people in our lives. New York rapper, songwriter and designer T.Shirt came to us through his blog illrapper.com and after sharing a few things across the Atlantic, we had a chat earlier this week. For those of you that don't know, Shirt dropped I Should Just Chill in June and it's looking set to take him big. So far the album has spawned two singles: June's For The Record and Wu-tribute Ode To Raekwon. The RONIN directed video to Ode To Raekwon came out a few weeks ago...

"one off the most most innovated videos on the web. excellent design. master work." - commentator on 2DopeBoyz

"For the visuals, the Queens MC puts on his shades and cuts through street language while standing in front of a projector that cloaks the rapper in vintage Japanese film clips. Even Raekwon himself gave it the stamp of approval." - ComplexMag

"Shout out to T.Shirt, if he’s not tryin I don’t know what trying is." - Heather, Herfection

"Shirt does it again." - KLEPONE (HipHopisDeadly)

"Since we are giving our respect to the Chef, I figure we might as well throw our dubs up in the air. So you do just that…one time for real Hip-Hop." - YNotMyDream

"...Japanese imagery brings the rugged rhymer's wax poetics to life. Homeboy's words (i.e. "aren't you sick of everybody singing the same song?") are just another example of how NY rappers are hungry to bring the crown back home again, and are sending a message to more thriving regions to proteck they neck and not get too comfortable." - SourceMagazine

"New T.Shirt never fails! Shouts to Ronin for an amazing job and the rest of the Hot Mop fam!" - artist, The ILLZ

"T.Shirt embodies the characteristics of a true NY cat on his I Should Just Chill LP, from the trife lifestyle to the attitude." - JungleGymMagazine

"Dopeness from T.Shirt's "I Should Just Chill" album. Free and independent music for the win." - HipHopDX

"No doubt about it, Shirt makes dope videos. "24 Frames" still deserves a watch if you haven't already and his new video "Ode to Raekwon" isn't any different. Relatively simple concept, but executed perfectly, this is everything an ode to The Chef should be (minus the mountain of cocaine and white German girls)." - RefinedHype

"New video from the homey T.Shirt. Long story short, it's fire." - ReedSpace

"T.Shirt spits on a thick mellow beat that Raekwon couldn’t, and because of that his “Ode” to the mafioso master is a true tribute." - YoungAndFicticious

"Using familiar kung fu samples that scream “36 Chambers”, T.Shirt wastes no time letting the mic combust from the flames he breathes. Melted mic devices was purely evident from lines dealing with “having expensive jeans around his ankles getting polished” to there being a few good NY rappers and one of them is a ghost (hint). Dopeness indeed." - Emilio Sparks

''Ode to Raekwon'' is such a cool visual, it just doesn't get boring... a collage of moving images." - producer of "Ode To Raekwon", The Letter L

T.Shirt Feature In UK Newspaper, The Stool Pigeon:

"It’s easy to fall for New York rapper T.Shirt after watching his video ‘For The Record’. In it, you see nothing but his face for the first minute, dominating the screen, him sucking on a cigar in between raps about “pretty bitches” tattooing him “in the nude”. Then the camera pulls away and you see he’s actually hanging upside down in a dingy basement. Then a topless woman walks past. It’s a ludicrous 90 seconds that feels more like watching a crime boss on his break than a rap video. But that’s just what you should want from rap..."

T.Shirt Interview w/ TheSoullective.com'

One of the main reasons I gravitated towards your music is because you have this raw style that reminds me of early 90s, New York hip hop. I immediately think of Wu Tang, Mobb Deep and Nasty Nas when I hear you. Why do you think that New York has gotten away from that style of rap?

Thanks for the big comparisons. Honestly, it’s just a different world. It’s literally not the same New York it was in the 90’s. I’m not mad at it. We had that and now there’s all this. If you’re lucky enough to have made it through with some great memories of how it used to be then sweet, but we’re making some brand new great memories now. I think rappers getting away from that raw sound you talk about is merely due to the music they stopped listening to. The parties they stopped going to, the people they stopped hanging around. Everything around you creeps into the sound and song content. Believe me there’s still a lot of “raw hip-hop” being made, it’s just terrible.

Dear-Whoever Reviews I Should Just Chill Album

"When a rapper starts off a song "this album is just some hip-hop shit / next one I'll make you groove" it makes you expect a lot more from them. Given the current state of hip-hop, where few can straddle the line between making strippers butts shake and making backpacks' zippers unzip, it's cool to hear someone express that duality of hip-hop. T.Shirt, I'd heard your name sprinkled about the blogosphere and even in my e-mail box, but never had given you a listen. I rue the day I slept now, having listened to your LP I Should Just Chill."

"... the latest from T.Shirt. On this one Shirt keeps on with his classic, intelligent, unmistakenly NYC style. The jazzy production ranges from smooth to chaotic, but the voice is always consistent. You can hear confidence in every line that basically says, “Like it or not, this is what I’m doing.” It might come across as a little brash, but it’s refreshing in a time when so many people are just trying to please others." - PigeonsAndPlanes
