Kaws Talks To HB About Recent VMA Work
The Moonman award is synonymous to the VMAs for the last three decades, how does it feel given the chance to iterate the iconic trophy?
It’s a great opportunity. I’m happy that MTV reached out to me, it’s truly an honor. They were also sort of doing it in my neighborhood, and to be able to be the artist that redesigns the stage and iconic award is a lot of fun. We have a place three blocks from here in Brooklyn and then my studio is in Williamsburg.

That's the 30 million dollar deal with Samsung to put out the album, premiering the Picasso Baby video on HBO, becoming the first major artist to premiere a video on Facebook for Holy Grail, and now the documentary to his festival premieres on Showtime. DiCaprio & Scorsese Talk To Vulture About Upcoming "The Wolf of Wall Street" Film
Imagine a world where a guy can make $12 million in three minutes, where blow jobs are a perk of the gig, dwarfs are tossed to raise employee morale, and inhaling anthills of coke, Scarface style, is encouraged. Now imagine a world where a studio would pass on a movie with a subject that titillating, even if it came tied in a Leonardo DiCaprio–and–Martin Scorsese bow. That’s the way things were looking back in 2008, when Warner Bros. dropped out of Scorsese and DiCaprio’s upcoming black comedy The Wolf of Wall Street. The two went on to make Shutter Island, then separated for other projects. But when a window in Scorsese’s schedule opened up in 2012, DiCaprio approached the director again. “I told Marty, ‘I don’t think we’ll be able to do a movie like this too many times in the future,’ ” says DiCaprio. “Larger-scale, R-rated dramas, like Blood Diamond or The Departed, don’t really get financed anymore.”

"Picasso Baby" Director Mark Romanek Talks To GQ About New Jay Z Video
GQ: Let's start from the beginning. How did this all come together?
Mark Romanek: I've been in touch with Jay over the years. He invited me to hear the album about three months ago, and I was blown away by what he was doing. We agreed that we'd be collaborating in some fashion for this album release. I ended up doing the Samsung spots which came out really well, and he said that we should really do a music video. I was thrilled, but not really feeling like I wanted to do a music video in the traditional sense. The song name-checks so many fine artists, I thought it should exist in some sort of art world venue. I immediately started thinking about performance artists and Marina Abramovic's The Artist is Present. Since Jay normally performs for 60,000-80,000 people at a time, I thought, "What would it be like to perform for people individually in a gallery setting?"
