Pharrell Williams Interviews David Salle & KAWS (Video)

Press play. You might learn something.

Pharrell does this thing, ARTST TLK, where he sits down with world renowned artists and great thinkers and such to speak about their personal philosophies. Pretty dope stuff each time. Why there's a naked girl that comes in halfway to refill water glasses and no one makes any sort of acknowledgment is a little beyond me. I would've probably smacked that ass.

Street-Famous Graf Writer COST Interview w/ Vandalog

A little bit of newfound respect for an old school guy who touched upon some marketing genius in his day.

"... I was in my relationship with my ex, heavily and I was happy and in love. And it put me in a place where I couldn’t paint. My apartment was a studio and she convinced me to convert it into a home, like a living room, a bedroom. So there went my studio. So she actually was detrimental to my artwork, when I look back. At the time I was happy with her and I was like, “Okay, let’s make a house into a home,” type of thing. But now, I want my studio back. So you know, sometimes things that seem really good in your life at one point, you look back a little later on, 5, 10, 20 years later and you might say, “Wow, that was good then, but was that really good for the grand scheme of my entire existence?”

V: Would you change anything if you could?

COST: Now looking back I’m like “What the fuck? What was I doing? I should have been painting and producing,” and I was hanging out and traveling around going upstate to the New England area, down south to Florida, like up and down the east coast a lot. Just chilling out, running my business, and now I look back and there’s this big gap where I didn’t do work. So I need to make up for that now, before I’m dead. But you know, I don’t really have regrets. It’s part of my life. It puts me exactly where I need to be..."

"You Want It You Buy It You Forget It"

Words, & opinion-art by Barbara Kruger for the NY Times today.

"Guerrilla Fashion: The Story of Supreme" - NY Times

Great look into the mind of one of the illest brands to do it.

Huge lines, once endemic to its New York flagship in SoHo, now form at satellite stores in Los Angeles, London, Tokyo and other cities. The current issue of British GQ Style, a men’s fashion bible, hails Supreme as “the coolest streetwear brand in the world right now.” And the Berlin culture magazine O32c called it “the Holy Grail of high youth street culture.” The Business of Fashion site called it “the Chanel of downtown streetwear.”

Lil Wayne's "No Worries" Fear & Loathing-Inspired Video, & MTV Interview

I like this.

MTV has a dope half an hour long interview you can watch filled with advertisements in-between and all here. Wayne talks everything with a bunch of clarity. He says Kanye and company (design collective DONDA) is doing the I Am Not A Human Being full album packaging.

This little guy in the different outfits was probably one of the biggest reasons I fell in love with the RL brand early like I did. I'm sure that's the case for most kids running around trying to get fly in the 90's.

By Any Means & Hood Chef Present “By Any Meals: A 5 Borough Food Drive.”

You gotta give it up for kids working hard to make a life for themselves and the people around them yet still taking the time out to give back any way they can. I want to send a special a shout out to the By Any Means team for doing just that, and I urge you to make whatever small or large donation you can toward the cause. It's a great one.

This Thanksgiving 2012, By Any Means will launch its first annual charity initiative “By Any Meals: A 5 Borough Food Drive.” Our goal is to raise enough money and collect enough non-perishable goods for at least 500 people to have a hot plate of Turkey with all the fixings, as well as a bag of food to bring home with them on Thanksgiving Day.

New Flume Album w/ T.Shirt Featured "On Top", Debuts At #1 On iTunes

This is pretty cool. Did a record for my man Flume's new album that just dropped on top of the Australian Music Top 100 charts. Like, I'm talking #1 on the charts. Rolling Stone reviewed it and even singled out the feature, going as far as mentioning "LA rapper T-Shirt" haha. I'll take it. Shout to Flume and everybody at Future Classics on the great job.

"An Ode to Creative Work" by Behance

Need a little bit of this every now and then.

Via StapleDesign

I do my best not to speak out of my ass most days. If I don't know much about something you won't catch me acting like I do. So in order to say these next few sentences it took me reading a bunch, listening a bunch, and flat out educating myself. Obama is the stronger candidate on the major issues I think most people [should] care about. Not to mention, our President and deserves a full and fair 8-year term to do his best for our country. Get out there and vote.

New York Magazine Stunning Cover Photo Of A Dark City

Support print. Because look at this shit it's awesome.

"The easiest part of a harried three days came Friday around noon, when we met to settle on the cover. A photograph taken by Iwan Baan on Wednesday night, showing the Island of Manhattan, half aglow and half in dark, was the clear choice, for the way it fit with the bigger story we have tried to tell here about a powerful city rendered powerless. We crammed back into the conference room, raced to finish our pages, and hoped, like other New Yorkers, that everyone would find the lights on when they got home."

On newsstands now.

Email From Louis C.K. Hours Before Hosting SNL For The First Time

I'd go ahead and say this is one of the best guys to ever get the mic.

He just sent this:

Hello. Its louis here. I'm clacking this to you on my phone in my dressing room here at studio 8H, right in 30 rockefeller center, in Manhattan, new york city, new york, america, world, current snapshot of all existence everywhere.

Tonight I'm hosting Saturday Night Live, something I zero ever in my life saw happening to me. And yet here it is completely most probably happening (I mean, ANYTHING could NOT happen. So we'll see).

I've been working here all week with the cast, crew, producers and writers of SNL, and with Lorne Michaels. Such a great and talented group of people.

And here we are in the middle of New York City, which was just slammed by a hurricane, leaving behind so much trouble, so much difficulty and trauma, which everyone here is still dealing with every day. Last night we shot some pre-tape segments in greenwich Village, which was pitch black dark for blocks and blocks, as it has been for a week now.

Its pretty impossible to describe walking through these city streets in total darkness. It can't even be called a trip through time, because as long as new york has lived, its been lit. By electricity, gas lamps, candlelight, kerosene. But this was pitch black, street after street, corner round corner. And for me, the village being the very place that made me into a comedian and a man, to walk through the heart of it and feel like, in a way, it was dead. I can't tell you how that felt. And you also had a palpable sense that inside each dark window was a family or a student or an artist or an old woman living alone, just being int he dark and waiting for the day to come back. Like we were all having one big sleep over, but not so much fun as that.

This is how a lot of the city is still. I know people in queens, brooklyn, Staten Island, new jersey, all over, are not normal yet. And not normal is hard.

And here at 30 rock, these folks are working so hard this week. There are kids in the studio every day, because members of the crew and staff had to bring them to work. Many people are sharing lodging. Everyone is tired. But there's this feeling here that we've got to put on a great show. I'm sure it feels like that here every week. But wow. I feel really lucky to be sharing this time with these particular good folks here at SNL.

In about 5 hours we'll be going on the air. I'll do a monologue. And we'll show you some sketches that we wrote and try to make you laugh. I'm gonna look really dumb in some of this stuff. But I don't care. Its awfully worth it. And I'm really excited.

Anyway. I just wanted to let you know. If you watch the show tonight, when Don Pardo says my name and you see me walking out, all the shit in this email is what ill be thinking. I'm a pretty lucky guy. I hope you enjoy the show.

Louis C.K.

Live. From new york. Its saturday night.

If you're home tonight, put on NBC at 11:30/10:30C.
